Federation named Helenka Shy as its new Chief Communications Officer on March 10, 2025.
As Chief Communications Officer, Helenka will be responsible for Federation’s strategic communications, brand amplification, and cross-functional collaboration. With a proven track record in digital strategy, storytelling, and operational excellence, Helenka’s work at Federation will focus on fostering innovation, maximizing engagement, and inspiring action.

Most recently, Helenka served as Marketing Director at Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ, where she led her team in strategic marketing and communications initiatives that enhanced brand visibility, increased community engagement, and amplified donor impact. Focused on establishing a clear vision, she reinforced consistent marketing, communication, and design standards, while developing tools and resources to empower and align colleagues across departments. A native of Northern Virginia, Helenka is excited to return to the Greater Washington region.
