Jewish Disability Awareness Month

Join a unified effort to raise disability awareness and support efforts to foster
inclusion in Jewish
communities worldwide.

The mission of Jewish Disability Awareness Month is to unite Jewish communities and organizations for the purpose of raising awareness and supporting meaningful inclusion of people with disabilities and their families in every aspect of Jewish life.

During Jewish Disability Awareness Month You Can

  • Organize a community-wide disability awareness event around the screening of a film about individuals with disabilities.  Possible films include “Autistic License,” “Breadmakers,” “Including Samuel” or “Praying with Lior.” Cap off the event by inviting an individual with specials needs and his/her family members to comment on the film and share their experiences. Contact Sara Milner at (240) 283-6233 for more information about these films.

  • Arrange for a professional in the area of special needs or individuals with disabilities, to train staff or lay leaders of your organization about understanding what it is like to live with a disability.

  • Inform your constituency about what you are already doing to accommodate and welcome individuals with disabilities.  Be sure to include the availability of accommodations such as large print programs, interpreter services and physical access in your publicity.

  • Use the Community Interpreter Fund to provide interpreter services for the deaf at one of your organization’s events or programs.  Find more information here
